There is a place in Northern Thailand called Pai (pronounced bye and meaning to go). It is meant to be the 70's relived. A relaxed hippy kind of an atmosphere tucked away in the middle of beautiful mountain surroundings. A place to recover from the mad rush of city life.
Sadly it's popularity has meant it has become just another commercial hub selling all sorts of touristy packages.
Jeremy and I spent two nights here travelling around the region on motorbikes visiting the waterfalls, elephant camps and hot springs - yes hot springs, in the middle of a 35 degree temp country! and they costed like $20 NZ to get into which is more than i usually spend in a day! A cool swimming pool, now that i'd understand and consider paying for.
